A few years ago Jay-Z did an album with Linkin Park.  Basically he rapped over some of their songs.  Thankfully the Jay-Z/Colplay mash up is nothing like that.  This is much more art and not so much sales gimic.  In fact, I’m not really sure either Jay-Z or Coldplay had much to do with this although they seem to really like it.  Viva La Hova is a mixtape.  Original audio from Colplay and Jay-Z mixed to make something new.  It’s pretty much great.  I’m not a huge fan of rap or of Jay-Z’s, but the artistic effort put into this piece is pretty inspiring.  If you want to check it out yourself Coldplay has a link on their website www.coldplay.com.  I particularly like how they used the intro drum piece for “In My Place” as the backbeat for a Jay-Z rhyme.  Also, on the way from Coldplay is a new EP called Prospekt’s March which has material they recorded for Viva La Vida, but it didn’t make it on the album.  That should be good stuff too.
