There’s something about the way we experience baptisms at Community that makes a certain weekend better than the others.  Behind the scenes it makes things kind of hectic, but a little more fun.  This weekend I think we set three CCC records for special baptism circumstances.

At our first service we had someone who wanted to get baptized who had just started coming to CCC the week prior.  She heard the talk that strongly encouraged baptism and decided that’s what she wanted.  When she got in the tub and it was time for the dunking she just went under on her own.  I believe she’s the first person at CCC to try to baptize themself.  It was a very cool moment.

In the second service I think we set a record for the most people we’ve had in the tub at once.  Check out Nick’s blog here for more info on that.

Then at our fourth service we set a record for people around the tub at one time and the most dressed up family for baptism.  You can see some picture evidence of that below.

All that said, it was a great time, great weekend, and I’d love to do it again.  Thanks to everybody who made it happen.

It felt like we had a hundred people on stage this weekend which was a great thing.  It’s always nice to have the vocal ensemble with us and the band was loaded so things were great from the start this weekend.  It was interesting having a talk about eternity and trying to plan a worship set around that.  It made song selection into an art.  And of course since we’re talking about eternity we knew we had to fit Tom and Jerry and Betty Boop into the service right.  Actually, I thought that video along with “How Far We’ve Come” by Matchbox 20 was a really great moment in showing the misconceptions that we have about heaven and hell.  And since the Betty Boop clip was from 1934 and the Tom and Jerry clip was from 1949, those misconceptions have been around a long time.  Jon Ferguson did a phenomenal job of bring the Big Idea together for us through his talk and just like that it was a successful weekend.  Thanks to everyone involved.

Anytime you have kids singing on stage and babies being dedicated you’re going to have a good time.  That was definitely the case this weekend at the Yellow Box.  Team 66:8 from Kid’s City were on stage to help us sing and we had 16 babies dedicated over the 4 services.  One thing that’s interesting about having kids on stage singing is that they’ve got all this choreography that goes with their songs.  So when you’re on stage looking out at the audience you know who works in Kid’s City and who doesn’t.  All of those adults doing the same motions as the kids, those are the ones that work in kid’s city.  It’s amusing and kinda cool at the same time.

Big props to the Arts Directors and the campus bands for doing such an amazing job, the video team for another incredible year of videos, Tony Germann for pulling it all together, and to Eric for being the monkey.  Below are some blurry pictures for your enjoyment.  Let’s do this again next year.

This is a pretty sweet new piece of gear if you’re a geek and like electronics and guitars.  The electronic music innovator Bob Moog’s company has developed a Moog guitar.  This thing does some pretty amazing stuff.  The price tag is a bit high I think, even for the amount of stuff this axe does.  Check out the page and listen to some of the samples.  There’s also some stuff on youtube that shows the versitility of the guitar.  Can you imagine if they’d have had these in the 80’s?  They would have had to have offered them in leopard print though.

This friday night at the Yellow Box the annual Fallapalooza is set to rock.  Admission is free and judging by the dress rehearsal last night, this will be the best return on your investment all year.  Make sure you’re there or you’ll be left out of all the watercooler talk at work monday.  Doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:00 pm.  Don’t miss Eric Bramlett as the Queen.  Here’s the video promo for your enjoyment.  Fallapalooza Promo Video

It was a nice weekend at the Yellow Box this weekend.  The Big Idea was The Spirit and the place was packed on Sunday morning probably due to the extra hour of sleep everyone got.  Extra sleep is nice.

This weekend’s band was - Danielle DeSouza, Denise Fogle, Jeremiah Higgins, Ray Simpson, Wade Wozniak, Gary Dole, and Ryan Barr.

Tech crew was made up of - Kirk Denson, Bonnie Nelson, Sam Mullin, and Randy Knibb.

The setlist in order of appearance.

I Am Free - Desparation Band

Freedom Reigns - Rita Springer

How Great Is Our God - Chris Tomlin

You’ll Come - Hillsong

Awesome Is The Lord Most High - Chris Tomlin

Here are some pics from service this weekend.  There are a couple pics in here too from our Video Venue that we have in the theater on Sunday’s at 11 am.  It’s a live video feed from our gymnatorium service and it’s a pretty sweet alternative to a packed gym.  Thanks to everyone who made this weekend awesome.

A few years ago Jay-Z did an album with Linkin Park.  Basically he rapped over some of their songs.  Thankfully the Jay-Z/Colplay mash up is nothing like that.  This is much more art and not so much sales gimic.  In fact, I’m not really sure either Jay-Z or Coldplay had much to do with this although they seem to really like it.  Viva La Hova is a mixtape.  Original audio from Colplay and Jay-Z mixed to make something new.  It’s pretty much great.  I’m not a huge fan of rap or of Jay-Z’s, but the artistic effort put into this piece is pretty inspiring.  If you want to check it out yourself Coldplay has a link on their website www.coldplay.com.  I particularly like how they used the intro drum piece for “In My Place” as the backbeat for a Jay-Z rhyme.  Also, on the way from Coldplay is a new EP called Prospekt’s March which has material they recorded for Viva La Vida, but it didn’t make it on the album.  That should be good stuff too.
